Lab technicians are medical professionals. They work under the supervision of a physician or a medical technologist. Lab technicians are required to have an associate degree from a community school, college or university and a vocational school. It is important to choose a lab technician school that is accredited since it will assure a person that he or she is receiving the best education and equipped with skills needed for the profession.

It is better to look for schools by asking schools offering a lab technician program about the curriculum it has and if it also provides on-job trainings for the students to improve their practical skills. After finishing the course, some States require lab technicians to be licensed or registered. For some this may not be mandatory but it can really give a great advantage when finding a job. Most institutions or employers prefer applicants that are certified. Lab technicians should have a good judgment and can work under pressure. They must give attention to details to make sure that all are correct. Simple errors can make a huge difference in diagnosing a disease.
